Poets Corner Preschool

Poets Corner Preschool is a community-based preschool in Redfern, proudly providing quality education for 3–5-year-old children for over 30 years. Our mission is to offer an affordable, safe, and nurturing environment where children and their families feel supported as they begin their learning journeys.

Our preschool is designed to inspire. With a large and natural space, children can enjoy meaningful and engaging experiences that foster their love for learning. We focus on building essential foundation skills, including communication, language, early literacy and numeracy, as well as social and emotional development. These skills prepare our children for a confident and successful future.

Excellence in Education

Poets Corner Preschool has been recognized for its dedication to high-quality early education, meeting all National Quality Standards and exceeding expectations in Quality Area 6 (Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities). This recognition highlights our commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes for each child.

Supported Playgroups and Community Partnerships

Counterpoint proudly collaborates with Alexandria Park Schools as Community Centres (SaCC) and Save the Children Play2Learn Program to operate three local supported playgroups in Alexandria and Waterloo. These playgroups provide vital opportunities for families to connect, access resources, and support their children’s development in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Each playgroup runs during school terms, offering a safe space for children and caregivers alike.

Our Playgroups

Dobell Supported Playgroup
Held on Tuesday afternoons in the Dobell Community Room, this playgroup serves families living in public housing in Redfern and Waterloo. It offers a wonderful opportunity for local families to connect with one another and access health services and community resources. Families attending the Dobell Playgroup can also benefit from basic food provisions and donated items from OzHarvest.

Alex Park School Readiness Program
Designed for families with children aged 3-5 years who will be starting Kindergarten at Alexandria Park Community School, this playgroup runs on Wednesdays during Terms 3 and 4. The program helps prepare children for the transition to school life through engaging activities that build confidence and foundational skills.

Community Playgroup
Held every Thursday during school terms at Alexandria Park Community School, this open playgroup welcomes families from the inner city area. It encourages the active participation of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families, fostering inclusion and supporting families with emerging needs. It’s a space where cultures connect, and community bonds grow.

Collaboration for Stronger Communities

Counterpoint is also an active member of the Inner City Child and Family Interagency group. This group brings together child and family services in the area to collaborate on evidence-based and community-driven initiatives aimed at supporting families. Led by Julie Katz from SDN Children’s Services, the Interagency group embodies the spirit of partnership and shared commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
