Waterloo Redevelopment Support
Our team is committed to advocating for public housing residents during the Waterloo redevelopment, ensuring their needs and voices are prioritized throughout the process.
Since the announcement of the Waterloo social housing estate redevelopment in 2015, the Waterloo Redevelopment Community Development Officer (WRCD) has been a steadfast advocate for public housing residents. This project focuses on supporting residents, local services, organisations, and government stakeholders during the redevelopment process.
Key Goals:
Ensure the voices and needs of vulnerable and marginalised groups, including children, older adults, those with disabilities, and Aboriginal community members, are prioritised.
Provide independent advice, information, and support to residents and community partners.
Lead community engagement programs to foster participation throughout the redevelopment.
Be a leading partner in the resroucing of the Waterloo Human Service Collaborative
The WRCD is further supported by bilingual educators who work closely with Russian and Chinese residents, ensuring their active participation in the master planning process. This project has been funded from our own funds with support from the City of Sydney and HOMES NSW.

Health Peer Educators Program
In partnership with the Sydney Local Health District, we created the Community Health Action Team (CHAT) Project, which evolved into a peer educator program.
The Waterloo Health Peer Educators program, in partnership with the Sydney Local Health District, recognises the vital role of well-being in shaping our daily lives. From mental health to fostering social connections, this initiative is designed to provide essential support to residents, especially in light of the loss of place-based community development funding.
Aims and Objectives
Recruit and train residents as health champions.
Establish a community-led Health Action Team to spearhead well-being and health promotion activities.
Strengthen existing social networks and create new ones to help reduce social isolation.
By empowering individuals to take charge of their health and well-being, the Waterloo Health Peer Educators initiative works towards building a resilient, connected, and thriving community.

Flexible Response Initiative
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Counterpoint successfully ran the Flexible Response Project, an emergency initiative designed to support residents facing significant challenges. Funded by the City of Sydney through the Community Services Grant and DCJ, this project provided much-needed relief to vulnerable individuals.
Services Provided:
Job-seeking assistance.
Emotional and counselling support.
Help with shopping, medication, and essential household items.
Guidance in navigating online services.
Personal development support and regular well-being checks.
The project ensured practical help for those most affected by the pandemic, particularly individuals who could not access support through other services. Counterpoint’s success with this program highlights our ability to step in and deliver assistance during emergencies, and we stand ready to implement similar initiatives again when the community requires it.
