Discover the transformative journey of Memory Lane, where storytelling bridges generations and strengthens community bonds.
Memory Lane: A Journey of Connection
Memory Lane was a transformative 10-week storytelling workshop aimed at fostering creativity and connection among seniors residing in public housing. Spearheaded by the talented theatremaker and storyteller Bethany Simons, the initiative provided a nurturing environment for participants to share their life stories over morning tea. These sessions not only boosted confidence and encouraged self-expression but also fortified community ties, resulting in a collection of beautifully curated booklets, audio recordings, and films that celebrate the wisdom of our participants.
Throughout the 33 workshops, Memory Lane engaged 55 seniors, with an average of 8 participants per session. By addressing the critical issue of social isolation, especially within public housing, the project facilitated meaningful social connections and amplified the voices of often-overlooked community members.
This initiative was made possible through the support of the Local Community Services Association (LCSA), the NSW Government’s DCJ Ageing Well and Housing programs.
Thanks to all our dedicated staff, volunteers, artists, and the remarkable tenants who participated.
